{"id":3418,"date":"2018-06-13T11:33:37","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T09:33:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kamp-nadiza.com\/?page_id=3418"},"modified":"2021-09-24T14:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-09-24T12:00:00","slug":"song-about-nadiza-river","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kamp-nadiza.com\/en\/surroundings\/song-about-nadiza-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Song about Nadi\u017ea river"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For all who know and love Nadi\u017ea \u2013 whether the local Kotarji people from our valley or those coming from different lands \u2013 and for all who wish to know her better, here\u2019s a song, by one Kotar man, Jurij \u0160imac, about this our Nadi\u017ea.<\/p>\n<p>The song has been translated from the original Slovene by Thomas Keeler and Meta M.<\/p>\n<h3><em>THIS OUR NADI\u017dA<\/em><\/h3>\n<p><em>Through the valley our river flows,<br \/>\ntowards the line where border cuts.<br \/>\nWhence she comes \u2013 whence she goes?<br \/>\nLet's follow her to the end!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Secretly she comes to life,<br \/>\n\u2018Tween Jalovec and Muzec.<br \/>\nFour sources winding their own ways,<br \/>\n\u2018til at Srednje brdo they make her.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>So she bursts upon the land,<br \/>\nvivacious Nadi\u017ea, away she blows,<br \/>\nwith vigour under Stermca,<br \/>\nno rock to block her way.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Soon the first bridge cuts her,<br \/>\na regal sounding crossing.<br \/>\nShe rushes past House Nardin,<br \/>\nand weds her course to Namlin\u2019s.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But all ye beware...<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>On her left dark Karst looms,<br \/>\nit is time for care.<br \/>\nShear\u00a0walls bear down,<br \/>\nroaring waves around,<br \/>\nmaking Jamnik\u2019s waters brake.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Down now below Gradec,<br \/>\nin Bran, in Sovdan,<br \/>\nwhere under Prosnida,<br \/>\ndive the waters of Legrada,<br \/>\nthrough the tightest narrows,<br \/>\nhissing as they fall.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The chime of a mountain bell,<br \/>\nechoes down from high Logje,<br \/>\nup there all alone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And then another bridge,<br \/>\nwith the old way aboard,<br \/>\nfor Robidi\u0161\u010de folk.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The spray tumbles down,<br \/>\nfrothing over stones,<br \/>\nrapid and unresting.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Now a mighty bend,<br \/>\nswings under Bridge Cesar,<br \/>\nat last the river slows.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Now beyond this bridge,<br \/>\nshe dallies and drops her pebbles.<br \/>\nLooking down from high,<br \/>\nSaint\u00a0Helena\u2019s church,<br \/>\neyes her greenly through the wood.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Now to where in summer,<br \/>\nflock the lively swimmers,<br \/>\nBela then Podbela,<br \/>\nand gentle lapping on the shores.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Crystal clear our river,<br \/>\nthrough light bends and osier branches,<br \/>\nshimmering she\u2019s seen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And Mount Stol too sees himself,<br \/>\nreflected in her waters,<br \/>\nwhile thinking of old tales.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Skies flame at sunset,<br \/>\nher silver ribbon blazes,<br \/>\nbelow House Hurja at Korita Gorge,<br \/>\nsees purest hidden pools,<br \/>\nas magical worlds created,<br \/>\nas thoughts on her path to come.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At Rob she briskly\u00a0bends<br \/>\ntowards Matajur and Mija,<br \/>\nwhere to us she waves goodbye,<br \/>\nand says farewell to St.Volar.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Now she narrows tightly,<br \/>\nas if she were afraid<br \/>\nto carry on her journey<br \/>\ninto Friuli\u2019s plain.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>So is our Nadi\u017ea...<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Whenever she is tame,<br \/>\nher melody is welcome.<br \/>\nBut sometimes she gets angry,<br \/>\nand her banks will not contain.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Then her course she bends,<br \/>\ntowards the \u201cbroken bridges\u201d<br \/>\nnought to spare,<br \/>\nall will yield,<br \/>\nour Nadi\u017ea this is she.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Jurij \u0160imac from Breginj<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For all who know and love Nadi\u017ea \u2013 whether the local Kotarji people from our valley or those coming from different lands \u2013 and for all who wish to know her better, here\u2019s a song, by one Kotar man, Jurij \u0160imac, about this our Nadi\u017ea.
